GSMO: What Is It?

LocationNation's GeoSpatial Media Organizer (GSMO) is a great tool for customizing the data you have collected on your handheld GPS.   And the service package is FREE for up to 50 Mb of storage!

You can then customize the downloaded information with pictures, written information, and icons to make it truly unique. By storing this information securely on our site you can access it at any time.

LocationNation is all about communities. If you have a paid subscription to LocationNation's services, you can set up your own GSMO community. Examples include: Geocaching, Hiking Groups, RVers, friends, and family. The possibilities are endless! But the cool thing is, with LocationNation's GSMO you’ll be able to collect your historical data and the data of others within your community and publish them to one location, your community. You can then customize your displays with text, maps, and videos.  There are two ways that you can display your GSMO communities. One is publicly and the other is privately.

Public Display
If you choose the public display option, anyone who accesses your community will be able to see all of the information of your members. Here's a typical scenario: You belong to a group of RVers, and they've set up a public community on LocationNation. You're taking a road trip and collecting your waypoints as you go. When the trip is over, you’ll be able to upload the data from your hand held GPS receiver and then customize your trip by adding photos, text, and videos. Then, people will be able to reference your maps, photos and descriptions when they view the member postings on the community. (Be sure to add as much information as possible to your journals.  If you find a great restaurant or museum, please mention it!)

Private Display
If you choose a private display of your community, then only the members of your community will be able to view maps and information posted by community members. For example, the Smith Family has three family members who hike in different parts of the country on a regular basis. After collecting their data points and uploading other information, the family members can view and share cool stuff within this private community (via a secure login).

On each community page you’ll find links to the personal profiles of the members. Within those profiles you’ll find personal information: Screen Name, Email Links, Hobbies, where the member is from and the LocationNation Communities to which they belong. You'll also find links to their travel adventures if they’ve uploaded maps along with their travel journals. Members have the ability to upload photos and videos of their adventures as well. Visit our Profiles Page to find out more about the process.
